New York CityJeanne Wilkinson

Formerly an abstract painter, Jeanne Wilkinson's paintings are now one of many elements in fantasy-laden, surreal digital collages that hint at the apocalyptic nature of 21st century life on earth. An innovative pioneer in the relatively new medium of computer-based art, she incorporates her paintings and drawings into complex and mysterious digital collages. Using Photoshop and Corel Paint programs, Wilkinson finds the computer to be an endlessly engrossing tool, constantly educating her with its intelligence and creative versatility. She has an extensive series depicting the mysterious adventures of her clan of former Barbie- and Ken-dolls called “The Painted People” who travel the earth and beyond, called "iridescent" by Dan Bischoff of the New Jersey Star Ledger. Her two self-portrait series include the “Colassa” series (the female Colossus), and “Magnetic Cartography,” which merges human and animal features in compelling and at times disturbing ways.

“My digital collage, “Cloud-Flower,” is made by layering my photographs of nature with images of the Painted People, a clan of former Barbies and Kens residing in my Brooklyn studio when not on their various vision quests.  As a former abstract expressionist painter, this current computer-generated imagery reflects my love of color, translucency and natural forms.”  All of her current imagery can be presented in varying ways and in virtually any size: as prints on paper, as mounted photographs, as projected images on a wall, or as image-flows within digital frames.
